Abstract:This research  makes a comprehensive definition of children’s academic developmentundertheframeworkofcorecompetences,divideschildrenintofourgroups accordingto urban-ruralandregional migrantstatus,examsandcomparestheeffectof parentalinvolvementon children’s academic developmentin each group as well.The researchfindsthat:(1)Parents’directlearninginvolvementhasverylimitedimprovement effectonchildren’sacademicdevelopment.Especiallyinthedimensionoftestscoreaspectof agriculturalhukouchildren,thisinvolvementtypeevenhassignificantnegativeeffect.(2) Parents’personalinvolvementcanpromoteall-roundacademicdevelopmentoffourgroups. Inaddition,thiseffectiveness willnotchangeduetothedifferencesbetween urban-rural hukouandmigrantstatus.(3)Parents’culturalinvolvementhaspositiveeffectonchildren’ sacademicdevelopment,whichonlyexistsinlocalnon-agriculturalhukouchildren,whileit hassignificantnegativeimpactonthelearning willpowerandcuriosityofnon-agricultural
outsiders.Thesefindingsbearimportantimplicationsforparentalinvolvementineducation forchildren.
